I was charged twice

Understanding duplicate charges and how they're resolved.

2 min read

Seeing two charges for the same order can be alarming, but in most cases, one of them is just a temporary authorization hold – not an actual charge. Let us explain what's happening and what to do.

Good news: In 95% of cases, duplicate charges are temporary authorization holds that disappear automatically within 3-5 business days.

What is an Authorization Hold?

When you make a purchase online, your bank places a temporary "hold" on the funds to verify the card is valid and has sufficient balance. This hold may appear as a pending charge on your statement.

Sometimes, if there was an issue during checkout (like a page refresh or clicking "Pay" twice), multiple authorization holds can be created. However, only one actual charge will be processed.

How to Identify a Duplicate Charge

Check your bank statement for these clues:

  • Pending vs. Posted: Authorization holds show as "pending" while actual charges show as "posted" or "completed".
  • Same amount: Duplicate authorizations will be for the exact same amount as your order.
  • Same date: They typically appear on the same date as your purchase.

💡 You can confirm your actual charge by checking your order confirmation email. You should only have been charged once for the amount shown.

What to Do: Wait 3-5 Business Days

In most cases, you don't need to do anything. Authorization holds are automatically released by your bank within 3-5 business days. The pending charge will simply disappear from your statement.

⚠️ Do not contact your bank to dispute the charge during this waiting period, as this could delay the automatic release of the hold.

Still Seeing Two Charges After 5 Days?

If both charges are still showing as "posted" (not pending) after 5 business days, please contact our support team with:

  • Your order number
  • A screenshot of your bank statement showing both charges
  • The dates and exact amounts of both charges

We will investigate immediately and issue a refund for any duplicate charge within 24-48 hours.

How to Prevent Duplicate Charges

  • Wait for the payment page to fully load before clicking "Pay"
  • Only click the payment button once, even if it seems slow
  • Don't refresh the page during payment processing
  • Wait for the order confirmation page before navigating away
